Measuring and monitoring our climate action impact is crucial for making progress in mitigating climate change.
Climate Emergency UK has published the 2024/25 results of the Council Climate Action Scorecards - an assessment on all UK Councils’ climate action.
This benchmarking tool allows us to compare against and learn from our peers and better understand where we can improve to deliver meaningful climate action.
The process encourages transparency, accountability, and supports our transition to net-zero by 2050.
Our climate action scorecard 2024-2025
The scorecards assess climate action across seven sections:
- Biodiversity
- Buildings and heating
- Collaboration and engagement
- Governance and finance
- Planning and land use
- Transport
- Waste reduction and food
What's our response?
We are at the beginning of our climate action journey; although our score has improved by 6% since the 2023 assessment, we still have a way to go.
We are committed to delivering our climate action plans to reduce our operational carbon emissions and adapt to climate change, through collaboration across teams at Tamworth Borough Council and with local partnerships.

Our Nature Recovery Declaration (2023) commits to nature recovery across the Borough, and we will embed climate change into our newest Local Plan. We’ll also conduct a review of our housing stock and assets with a view to decarbonising where feasible.
Councillor David Foster, Deputy Leader & Portfolio Holder for Environmental Sustainability, Waste, and Recycling says:
"Tamworth BC are committed to protecting our environment and are actively working on projects around Tamworth to protect and enhance it. These metrics help us to ensure our policies and actions are having a positive impact and we are confident that next year's results will be positive again."
