On Thursday 1 May people in Tamworth will have their say at Staffordshire County Council elections.
Residents must be on the electoral register to be able to vote in May. With the registration deadline approaching Tamworth Borough Council is urging those who are not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered before it is too late.
The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Friday 11 April. It takes just five minutes to apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Staffordshire County Council elections are held every four years. This year residents in Tamworth will be voting to select councillors who represent them at county council level. Those elected will shape the future of county council services such as roads, social services for adults and children and education.
Stephen Gabriel, Deputy Returning Officer for Tamworth Borough Council, said:
“County council elections are an important opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who makes decisions about issues that affect day-to-day life in Staffordshire.
“If you’re not registered by Friday 11 April, you will not be able to vote in these elections in May. Registering to vote only takes five minutes and can be done online.”

Those intending to vote at polling stations in May will need to show photo ID. A list of accepted forms of ID is available on the Electoral Commission website at electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/voter-id
Those who do not have eligible ID can apply for free voter ID at https://voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/
If you will be away or cannot go to the polling station on Thursday 1 May, you can apply to vote by post. You can complete an application online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. The deadline for completed postal vote applications to reach the Electoral Services Office is 5pm on Monday 14 April. If you miss this deadline, you will still have time to apply to vote by proxy. You can complete an application online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote. The deadline for completed proxy vote applications to reach the Electoral Services Office is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April.
