- Skate park work starts Monday 3 November
- Work will replace deteriorating fencing and outdated inefficient lights
- Skate park set to reopen before Christmas.
Tamworth Borough Council is starting essential improvement works to the skate park in Tamworth Castle Grounds from Monday 3 November, immediately after the half-term break.
The work will see the fence and lights replaced around the popular skate park facility. The existing infrastructure, which has not been upgraded for over 40 years, has now reached the end of its serviceable life.
The works will include:
- Removal and renewal of perimeter fencing, which is worn and sagging in places.
- Upgrading the lights to modern, energy-efficient LED lighting, improving visibility and reducing energy costs.
The project, funded through Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Section 106 contributions, represents a total investment of £65,000 into the facility and forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improve community assets and outdoor leisure spaces.
Works are expected to take between four to six weeks, with the skate park due to reopen before the Christmas holidays, weather permitting.
Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, leisure and engagement, heritage, said: "This is a much-needed investment in one of our most well-used community spaces.
“We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum and thank people for their patience during the works."
The rest of the Castle Grounds will remain open to the public during the works.
