Cost of living payments
If you are in receipt of certain benefits or tax credits you may be eligible for additional cost of living payments which have been brought in nationally to help people cover rising costs.
Benefits that may be available to you
- Low income benefits and tax credits Cost of Living Payment, if you get a qualifying low income benefit or tax credits.
- A Disability Cost of Living Payment, if you get a qualifying disability benefit.
- A Pensioner Cost of Living Payment, if you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2023 to 2024.
These payments are made automatically by the Government to people who are eligible. There is no application process.

Help with childcare costs
The cost of childcare can be a real challenge for many families in the borough. Especially those who may have more than one child under school age.
Free childcare places for 2 year olds
If your child is approaching their second birthday, they may be eligible for a free part-time place in a high-quality childcare setting (nursery or childminder) from the term following their 2nd birthday. Eligibility is dependent on your individual circumstances.

30 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds
If your child is, or will soon be 3 to 4 years old, you could be eligible for up to 30 hours of FREE childcare per week with an approved provider for 38 weeks of the year (school term time).
