1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment Freedom Parade through Tamworth town centre

  • 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment to form military parade around Tamworth town centre
  • From 11am, on Wednesday 28 September, members of 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment will take part in a freedom of the borough parade
  • Road closures will be in place for a short time

On Wednesday 28 September, members of 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment will conduct a parade through Tamworth town centre from 11am.

Tamworth Borough Council granted the The Mercian Regiment ‘Freedom of the Borough’ in 2007, in recognition of the huge debt owed by Tamworth to the service personnel and veterans. In 2013 The Mercian Regimental Association, Tamworth branches of the Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Association, and Royal Air Force Association were also granted freedom of the borough to recognise and thank service personal and veterans for their dedication and service.

As a result of the parade, several roads in the town centre will be closed ahead of the event.

On Wednesday 28 September, from 6am – 12.30pm, St Editha’s Close will be closed to traffic.

On the same day, from 11am – 12.30pm the following roads will be closed to all traffic:

  • Holloway, 
  • Silver Street, 
  • Market Street, 
  • Boledbridge Street, 
  • Colehill, 
  • College Lane
