Locals invited to take part in Tamworth Borough Council’s annual survey

Tamworth Borough Council is inviting local people, business, voluntary groups and anyone with an interest in Tamworth to take part in their annual residents’ survey.

Questions about what Tamworth is like as a place to live, thoughts on local council services and how people think money collected from council tax and business rates should be spent in Tamworth are just some of those included in the 2022 annual survey.

Last year’s survey helped elected members set new priorities for the council around the town centre, the local economy, the environment, infrastructure (transport and access to services) and living in Tamworth (housing, Tamworth’s events and leisure facilities).

The survey this year includes the annual budget consultation, which asks people about how money is spent. This information is used by elected members when setting future council budgets. While Tamworth Borough Council collects all council tax and business rates locally, it only keeps 10pence in every pound collected with most going to Staffordshire County Council.

Tamworth Borough Council services include: the fantastic summer of fun of this year’s Castle Summer Fest and other outdoor events, waste collection and recycling, street cleaning, parks and open spaces, planning and building control, promoting economic growth and regeneration, leisure services (castle, assembly rooms), election administration and support for the homeless.

The hope is that as many people as possible take part in this survey over coming weeks so the council receives some really representative and useful information that can help inform future service improvements.

As an extra incentive and to thank people for their time, everyone taking part in the survey has the option of entering a free prize draw to win a one of five £30 gift vouchers for a Tamworth store. The decision has been made to offer vouchers only available locally to help support the Tamworth economy.

The survey will take around 12-15 minutes to complete, no specialist knowledge of experience of contacting the council is needed, just a willingness to share views.

To take part, visit the council website at www.tamworth.gov.uk/consultation and follow the instructions.

For anyone not able to complete the survey online, papers copies of the survey are available from Tamworth Borough Council’s Assembly Rooms, Corporation Street. Our Customer Services advisors will be on hand to help people complete the survey via telephone, however the council will not make unsolicited calls.

Everyone is encouraged to have their say before the survey closes on the 23 October.

Councillor Jeremy Oates, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said:

“This survey is a great opportunity for locals to help my fellow councillors and I set the 2023/24 council budget and priorities.

“We use the feedback from local people in these surveys along with our knowledge as ward representatives to set the council’s future strategy, making sure the vulnerable members of our community can continue to access any help and support they need.

“I’d urge as many people as possible to take part and have your say by visiting our website tamworth.gov.uk/consultation and spend a few minutes sharing views. I’d like to see as many responses as possible so can gain some real meaningful insight from residents from all walks of life.”
