Brownfield Land Register

The Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations 2017 (the regulations) came into force on 16th April 2017. These regulations place a new duty on Local Planning Authorities to prepare, maintain and publish a list of brownfield sites, to help improve the quality and consistency of data on brownfield land suitable for housing. 

The Government is committed to maximising the number of new homes built on suitable brownfield land and hopes that the brownfield register will provide much needed upfront certainty in the planning process to encourage investment.

The register comprises a standard set of information, prescribed by the Government, which will be kept up to date and made publicly available.
