Tamworth Borough Council Voter ID Statistic for the polls that took place on Thursday 4 May 2023
The Elections Act 2022 introduced the requirement for voters at polling stations to show an accepted form of photographic identification before they can be issued with a ballot paper. The data below sets out the information that we are allowed to share prior to formal reports being produced by the Electoral Commission and the Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities. This data is for the whole Tamworth Borough Council area.

Information for Candidates and Agents
A briefing took place on Tuesday 14 March to help prepare prospective candidates who wish to stand as a borough councillor at the forthcoming elections on Thursday 4 May 2023. As well as informing candidates and their agents on matters that will affect their campaign, it was also a chance for them to meet and ask questions of the Electoral Services Team. Nominations will open on Wednesday 22 March 2023 and will close at 4pm on Tuesday 4 April 2023.

Information for Electors

Voting in person
You can vote in person at your allocated polling station. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm. If there is a queue you will still be able to vote as long as you joined the queue before 10pm.
Voter ID
- A passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
- A driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state
- A biometric immigration document
- An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card)
- Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card)
- A Blue Badge
- A national identity card issued by an EEA state
- An Older Person’s Bus Pass
- A Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
- An Oyster 60+ Card
- A Freedom Pass
- A Scottish National Entitlement Card issued in Scotland
- A 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
- A Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
- A Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- A Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- A War Disablement SmartPass or War Disabled SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- A 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- A Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- An Electoral Identity Card issued in Northern Ireland
- A Voter Authority Certificate or a temporary Voter Authority Certificate
If your photographic identification document has expired it will still be accepted as long as the photograph is still a good likeness of you.

Alternatively, you can apply using a paper application form, please call 01827 214155 during office hours to request a paper application from.
The deadline to apply is 5pm, 6 working days ahead of a poll. For the Tamworth Borough Council Election on Thursday 4th May 2023, the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm, Tuesday 25th April.
If you have recently moved to Tamworth from another local authority area and have a Voter Authority Certificate issued by your previous local authority, you do NOT need to apply for a new one, you can use it to vote in your polling station in Tamworth, so long as the photo remains a good likeness to you.

Voting by post

Voting by proxy (someone voting on your behalf)
To vote by proxy you need to ask someone you trust to vote on your behalf. You need to complete a proxy vote application form. You can download a proxy application here

Please note that the deadline for a postal-proxy (where your appointed proxy wishes to vote by post) is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2023.
Emergency proxy vote
In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you cannot vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy.
This must be something that you weren't aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline.
The form you need to complete depends on your reason for needing an emergency proxy vote.
