Help if you have debt and are struggling to pay your mortgage or rent

If you are having difficulties managing your rent or mortgage, you may be at risk of losing your home. We have a number of schemes to help you tackle rent, mortgage arrears or debt.

• Referral to free specialist debt advice provided by the Tamworth Citizens Advice Bureau
• Referral to a free independent Court Desk service provided by the Tamworth Citizens Advice Bureau
• Referral to a free tenancy sustainment service provided by the Tamworth Citizens Advice Bureau
• Pre-eviction advice
• Homeowners Mortgage Support (HMS)
• Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI)

 

Free Debt Advice, Court Desk and Tenancy Sustainment Service

We work with Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to prevent repossessions and evictions. The Debt Advice, Court Desk and Tenancy Sustainment Services offer free advice and assistance to people facing debt or repossession proceedings, and advice and guidance to enable people to try and remain in their own homes. The CAB also offers pre or post court advice and support.  Advice can also be given on opening bank accounts and money management. Please visit our CAB / Tamworth Advice Centre webpage for information on these services.

You can be referred to this service by either visiting Tamworth Borough Council's Housing Solutions Team, if you are a tenant of Tamworth Borough Council then your Housing Officer can advise you how to access this service, or alternatively you can drop into the CAB offices at Marmion House. www.tamworth.gov.uk/tamworth-advice-centre
