Grass cutting

Verge mowing

  • Grass will be cut every ten working days between 1st April and 31st October.
  • All litter and obstructions will be moved prior to cutting and the depot notified to arrange special collection if necessary.
  • Perimeter and obstacle growth will be removed every third cut or sprayed at the start of the season.
  • Naturalised bulb areas will be cut and the cuttings removed approximately six weeks after flowering.

Please note: We are unable to start mowing until the ground is dry. If we get heavy rainfall this will put start dates back. We will start mowing as soon as weather and ground conditions are acceptable. The mowing runs take just over two weeks to complete therefore if a resident is towards the end of a mowing run they will have to wait until we are at their location.

Recreational grass

  • Grass in main park and recreational areas will be cut every ten working days between March and October e.g. Castle grounds, Wigginton Park, Dosthill Park and identified areas in Linear Park.

Remaining open spaces

  • Informal areas will be cut every 22 working days.
  • All litter to be moved prior to cutting and the depot notified to arrange special collection if necessary.

Shrub maintenance

  • Shrubs and young trees in residential areas will be pruned and cleared of debris twice per year.
  • Those whip beds situated in non-residential areas will be thinned out and cleared of debris every three years.

Hedge maintenance

  • All hedges will be trimmed between August and October following bird-nesting season.

Street cleansing

  • Streets, footpaths and public areas will be maintained in a condition that exceeds current government cleanliness standards.
  • Litter and dog bins will be emptied before they reach over capacity.
  • Broken glass, sharps and dead animals will be removed within 24 hours.

Festivity cleansing

  • Town centre cleansing on a Sunday morning will have been completed by 9.00am.

Litter hotspots

Litterbins will be deployed along known school runs to encourage responsible disposal of litter.
