At Full Council on Tuesday 12 December, a new Leader of the Council, was announced.
Following the resignation of Councillor Paul Turner as Leader of the Council last month, Council determined the new leader would be Councillor Thomas Jay.
On accepting the role, Councillor Jay thanked everyone for their support, commenting: “It is an honour to lead the council and head up positive changes for our town. I understand the challenges this role brings, and the effort required and I’m more than ready for that.”
During the meeting Councillor Jay also announced a Conservative and Independent Futures coalition with changes to the existing Cabinet to be announced in due course. An addition to Cabinet was however confirmed on the night, with Councillor Jeremy Oates joining Cabinet as Portfolio holder for Future High Street Fund Delivery.
Councillor Jay went on to say: “As a third generation Tammy brought up in Glascote Heath, it’s an honour to do my little bit to shape the future of Tamworth.
“As leader I’ll work to bring people together, tap into existing talent and experience and focus on delivery for Tamworth and it’s residents.”
