How to apply

Applications are invited on our application form only.

The application form can be accessed via An electronic or paper copy is available upon request but will only be provided in exceptional circumstances.

Please read the job profile carefully before completing the application form. You need to relate your experience and achievements to the post for which you are applying. 

Please do not send evidence of qualifications or references at this stage.

The personal information provided on the application form is used to monitor adherence to the equal opportunities policy.  This information does not constitute part of the selection process.

Applications received after the closing date will only be considered by prior arrangement with the recruiting manager.

All correspondence with candidates will be via email; therefore candidates should check their email on a regular basis after submitting an application.

Feedback to candidates

Shortlisting will usually take place within 2 weeks of the vacancy’s closing date. Due to high applicant numbers please note that feedback will not be provided at the shortlisting stage. Feedback will be provided to candidates who request it following interview.

Selection process

It is the Council’s policy that the recruitment process will involve a formal interview and other job related tests where required.  Full details will be given to the shortlisted candidates.


All appointments are subject to:

  • Receipt of two satisfactory references, at least one of which should be your current or most recent employer if you are not in employment.
  • Medical clearance from our Occupational Health Advisor.  Successful candidates are asked to complete a questionnaire and may be required to undergo a medical examination at the Council’s cost.
  • Evidence of any qualifications required for the post.      
  • Appropriate driving licence and insurance checks for positions where driving is a requirement.
  • Eligibility to work checks.
  • Criminal convictions declaration.
  • Disclosure & Barring Service checks (DBS) where appropriate; some Council appointments are exempt from the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Successful candidates are advised not to resign from their current post until the above are obtained.
