New Cabinet announced for Tamworth Borough Council

At the Annual and Ordinary Full Council meeting on the 23 May, a new Leader of the Council, Deputy leader of the Council and Cabinet have been announced.

Following the local election earlier this month, a number of changes have been made to the roles and responsibilities of the portfolios.

Councillor Paul Turner is Leader of the Council, while Councillor Thomas Jay takes the position of Deputy Leader. 

During the meeting Councillor Turner set out his ambition for the council to work together to move forward with good conversation and listening.

A new-look Cabinet has also been confirmed to support him in his goals over the coming year.

Councillor Turner thanked everyone for their support, commenting: “I became a councillor last year and becoming Leader I have big shoes to fill. I’m confident we can move forward working together for the benefit of the residents of Tamworth.”

The Cabinet members are now as follows:

Councillor Paul Turner: Leader
Councillor Thomas Jay: Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Operations and Finance
Councillor Andrew Cooper: Entertainment and Leisure
Councillor Paul Thompson: Town Centre and Commercial Property
Councillor Sam Smith: Housing and Planning
Councillor Martin Summers: Environmental Health and Community Partnerships

The new chairperson for each committee is as follows:

Councillor Danny Cook: Corporate Scrutiny
Councillor Tina Clements: Planning
Councillor Ben Price: Licencing
Councillor Thomas Jay: Nominations
Councillor Rob Pritchard: Statutory Officer Conduct
Councillor Paul Turner: Appointments and Staffing
Councillor Daniel Maycock: Audit and Governance
Councillor Carol Dean: Infrastructure, Safety and Growth Scrutiny
