Private sector housing
The Private Sector Housing Team covers all housing which is not owned by the council. This includes leasehold properties, privately rented accommodation, housing association properties and owner occupied homes. Typical issues dealt with in this team are disrepair, tenancy law, eviction and harassment. We can also help with the following:
Homeowners:
- Encouragement for owners of empty homes to bring properties back into use
- We provide assistance to vulnerable homeowners to help them repair/ improve their homes
Landlords:
- Private Sector Landlords’ Forum - we encourage landlords to improve their homes
- Enforcement action
- Advice for landlords on evictions
- Guidance on how to comply with the 2018 Minimum Level of Energy Efficiency standard (EPC band E)
- Licence Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)
- Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Laws in privately rented properties
Tenants:
- Eviction advice to tenants
- Help and advice for tenants on their legal rights
- Enforcement action against landlords for tenants
- Harassment by landlord
- Repairs required by landlords
