Start Up Business Grant

Applications for this scheme are now closed

Grants of between £500 and £1,000 are now available to help promote new small business start-ups, self-employment and entrepreneurship in Tamworth.

This financial support will address the current funding gap faced by start-up businesses and will be available for completely new ventures and those which have been trading for less than three years. Over the years, Tamworth Borough Council’s Economic Development and Regeneration (EDR) team has had a number of enquiries from individuals requiring small amounts of money to buy equipment, help with marketing or buy relevant insurances in order to allow them to trade.

To receive these grants, individuals will be required to meet some basic criteria. This includes completing the Enterprise for Success programme, which provides 12 hours over a  4 day online workshop of one-to-one advice and support. The Enterprise for Success programme ensures individuals and businesses have the right skills they need to run their business and results in the creation of a business plan. For further information on the  Enterprise for Success workshops please visit:

Grant applications will be recommended to the Cabinet Grants Committee on a quarterly basis for approval. An annual budget of £20,000 has been allocated to the scheme, which is subject to annual budget reviews and agreements up to March 31 2022

Since the Enterprise for Success Programme is offering new dates of their Online Start-up Masterclass programme close to the original submission deadline, the Council has reconsidered their deadline date in order to give businesses the best chance to submit their applications for the Small Business Grant.

We have extended our deadline to 5pm Monday, 7 February 2022.

The scheme is now encouraging entrepreneurs and new small businesses to apply for the last round of grants for this financial year before the application closing date on Monday, 7 February 2022.

In order to meet the application deadline, businesses will have to complete the next available Enterprise for Success online Start-Up Masterclass, which runs on 25 January to 2 February 2022: not already completed.

This current grant scheme is under review.
