Work to demolish the 1960s part of the former Co-op department store to start

Tamworth Borough Council begins work on progressing its plans for the town centre Future High Streets project, with preparatory works to demolish the 1960s Co-op department store building, set to start this week.

Work will also see the older mid-19th century section of the building protected and converted for future use. While the 1960s side of the building will be demolished to make way for the new Tamworth College.

Roads will remain open, and visitors will still be able to access Church Street, St Editha’s and surrounding areas.

While we mourn the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, work on site will be kept to a minimum and will not hinder those visiting St Editha’s church to pay their respects and sign the books of condolence.

Further details about this project will be shared in due course.
