If you’re involved with a charity, community group or voluntary organisation in Tamworth, you might be able to get funding from the council towards the work you do.
We have various voluntary grant schemes available, outlined below, all designed to support initiatives which help build better communities in Tamworth.
We Are Tamworth Spacehive crowdfunding
This enables groups to raise funds for specific projects through a combination of community crowdfunding and grants of up to £15,000 from the council.
It’s aimed at initiatives that bring people together, strengthen community relationships and build pride in place.
It was launched in 2025 after the council was awarded £600,000 from the government’s Community Recovery Fund. A total of £165,000 of this has been made available to distribute via the Spacehive programme.
How it works
Eligible groups upload their projects to Spacehive and state the amount they are hoping to raise.
Projects must secure pledges from 20 local donors (with minimum donations of £2 each) before becoming eligible for additional pledges from the council.
The council can then pledge amounts of up to £5,000 for revenue projects and £10,000 for capital projects.
Once a campaign reaches its fundraising target, the council pledge is paid alongside the community donations.
The benefit of this combined approach is that funded projects have demonstrable support from local people.
More information about who is eligible, when and how to apply can be found on the Spacehive Tamworth website.
Funding is also available via Spacehive from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) for capital projects that benefit the community.
Up to £5,000 per project (capped at 50% of the campaign target) can be pledged by the council for schemes which receive public support via crowdfunding.
This is for projects that:
- Provide, improve, replace, operate or maintain infrastructure within Tamworth.
- Assist in addressing the demands that development places on the town.
More information and eligibility criteria are available on the Spacehive website.
Voluntary sector groups can apply for grants of between £500 and £3,000 from an additional £25,000 fund, which is being administered through The Community Foundation for Staffordshire.
For full details on when and how to apply, visit the We Are Tamworth Community Grants page.
This enables councillors to support community initiatives in their ward with grants for projects that help Tamworth people live a better quality of life.
Each councillor has £500 to give out in their area. Applicants can apply to one or more of the three councillors representing their ward, or other wards, to raise a total of £1,500 towards their project.
Applications are considered by the Portfolio Holder for Cooperative Council, Community Partnerships & ASB and the Assistant Director Regulatory Services, Community Safety, & Partnerships, with the Assistant Director Environment, Culture and Wellbeing where appropriate.
Organisations must contact their local councillor to discuss their idea BEFORE submitting an application.
These grants are administered by The Community Foundation for Staffordshire in accordance with the Grant and Funding Policy – April 2025.
Visit this Councillor Grants webpage for eligibility criteria and to apply.
The closing date for the current round is February 26, 2027, unless all funding is allocated before then.
