Half term FREE children’s sporting activities

Tamworth Borough Council have announced free May half-term holiday activities taking place from Tuesday 28 May to Friday 31 May.

The one-week activity programme will run Tuesday-Friday, offering a wide range of activities for children aged 6–12 years old and the great news is that all activities are completely free of charge. Though all sessions must be booked in advance.   

The varied programme, funded by Tamworth Borough Council via the Covid Management Outbreak Fund, is guaranteed to have something on offer for all abilities and interests, including roller skating, boxing and tennis sessions.

The council has received a total of £22,000 from the Covid Management Outbreak Fund, distributed through Staffordshire County Council; towards increasing all holiday activity provision within the borough. 

Activities take place in the Castle Grounds, Tamworth Boxing Club, and Statfold Barn.

Tuesday 28 May: 

Tamworth Boxing Club, Orchard Street.

Boxing sessions - 10am–12noon, 6–8-year-olds. 1pm–3pm, 9–12 years old. To book contact: 01827 314111. Children should wear sports clothing and bring water bottle.

Wednesday 29 May:

Tamworth Castle Grounds, Tennis Courts.

Tennis sessions - 1.30pm – 2.30pm, 6-8 years old. 2.30pm-3.30pm, 9-12 years old. Book online: https://www.microsportsltd.co.uk/tamworth-castle-grounds-camps/p/whitsun-tennis-club-free.

Children should wear sports clothing and bring a waterproof jacket and water bottle. 

Thursday 30 May:

Statfold Barn, Ashby Road, B79 0BU.

Roller Skating – 11am-1.30pm, 6-12 years old. Please note that all children must be always supervised by a responsible adult. To book email: CP&PAdmin@tamworth.gov.uk.

Roller skates will be provided, please wear suitable socks and clothing. Booking on a first come first served basis.

Friday 31 May:

Tamworth Castle Grounds, Tennis Courts.

Tennis – 1.30pm-2.30pm, 6-8 years old. 2.30pm-3.30pm, 9-12 years old. Book online:  https://www.microsportsltd.co.uk/tamworth-castle-grounds-camps/p/whitsun-tennis-club-free.

Children should wear sports clothing and bring a waterproof jacket and water bottle. 

Stephen Gabriel, Chief Executive for Tamworth Borough Council, said: “These activities are always a huge success and are very popular, so I would encourage people to sign up as soon as possible so that they don’t miss out.

“We work in partnership with sports clubs from across the borough to put together our school holiday programmes, which means we can offer a wide range of events for children for free during half term. 

“We hope that children from across Tamworth will sign up to try something they may not have tried before”.

Along with the free holiday activities, Tamworth Borough Council is also hosting events and entertainment in the Castle Grounds, Assembly Rooms and Tamworth Castle, with many varied free and paid for activities for the whole family.
