Tamworth Borough Council are inviting families to enjoy not one but two outdoor shows on Sunday 18 August.
Tethered Wits productions are bringing two shows to the castle grounds where families can come and spend a (hopefully sunny!) summers day enjoying outdoor theatre.
The first show, The Railway Children, is based on the classic novel by E. Nesbit. We invite you to embark on a magical journey filled with fun, music, and heartwarming storytelling.
Meet the Waterbury children: Roberta, Peter, and Phyllis. They are ordinary children living in an ordinary house, until one day, a mysterious event changes their lives forever.
Forced to move to the countryside, they move near a bustling railway, where every passing locomotive brings new mysteries, friendships, and discoveries. Our young heroes find themselves in the midst of a true adventure.
Bring your friends and family together, on a journey that celebrates the timeless power of love, community, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
The show starts at 2.30pm in the castle grounds and has a running time of one hour. Tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £10 for children. The performance is best suited for children aged five and over.
The second show of the day is Jeeves and Wooster ‘Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves’ based on the novel by P.G Woodhouse. We cordially invite you to an uproarious adventure with the two beloved characters, Jeeves and Wooster.
Enter the whimsical world of Bertie Wooster, an affable young gentleman with a penchant for getting himself in the most outlandish predicaments. Thankfully, he has his razor-sharp valet, Jeeves, to rescue him from all sorts of mishaps.
Facing misadventures, from ill-fated romances to comical escapades, all set against the backdrop of a world filled with eccentric aunts, quirky friends, and a host of unforgettable characters.
Featuring live jazz music, from our ensemble of actor-musicians - a jolly good time awaits you!
This show starts at 5.30pm and has a running time of two hours with a 20-minute interval. Tickets are priced at £16 for general admission, £12 for children and £14 for concessions. The performance is best suited for children aged seven and over.
For both shows, ‘gates’ open 45 minutes before the performance begins. Seating will not be provided so please do bring your own camping chairs or picnic blankets. Feel free to bring your own picnics. Also, please note that dogs are not allowed.
Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, leisure and engagement, said: “This is the last day for our outdoor theatre performances this summer. We are fortunate to have not one, but two different productions on Sunday 18 August to end what has been a great summer for outdoor theatre.
“From Julius Caesar back in June, and The Dragon Wagon the other weekend, we have had an amazing mixture of shows for everybody to enjoy.
“Come down to either show - or both if you’re an outdoor theatre fanatic! - and enjoy spending a summers day in the beautiful castle grounds with some great entertainment for all the family.
“It’s a great opportunity for the kids, especially during the summer holidays to spend some time outside and enjoy the shows. Fingers crossed for sunshine.”
