- Playscheme returns packed with free activities for children
- New 3G pitch at Anker Valley opens for football camp
- From 29 July – 23 August
Children aged two and over are being invited to take part in another exciting programme of free sports and fun activities this summer.
Tamworth Borough Council has unveiled its brand-new programme of sport activities; ‘Playscheme 2024’, which runs Monday-Friday, from 29 July until 23 August.
The four-week activity programme offers a wide range of activities for children aged two and upwards. The great news is all activities are completely free of charge.
The varied programme, funded by Tamworth Borough Council, is guaranteed to have something on offer for all abilities and interests, including dance, soft play, football, tennis, sessions at Jump Xtreme and Statfold roller disco.
Activities take place across the borough, with locations including the Castle Grounds, Statfold Country Park, Brent House in Wilnecote, SMDA - dance academy (book here: SMDA Events - Booking by Bookwhen) and the brand new 3G pitch at Anker Valley Sports Complex.
The new 3G football pitch opens for the September football season thanks to grant money from the Premier League, The FA and government’s Football Foundation, section 106 monies and money from Tamworth Borough Council’s football development fund; but is being made available early for youngsters to enjoy.
When the football season starts in September, the pitch will prioritise quality sporting facilities for grass roots football for women and girls and benefit local children, adults and elderly residents with targeted active wellbeing sessions such as walking football.
Spaces are limited for all activities and attendees should check the providers website for equipment needed and booking arrangements.
Councillor Lewis Smith, Portfolio holder for people services, engagement and leisure for Tamworth Borough Council, said: “These activities are always a huge success and are very popular, so I would encourage people to sign up as soon as possible so they don’t miss out.
“We’re excited to see the 3G pitch opening in time for our summer playscheme. The huge success of the 3G pitch at the Tamworth Enterprise College, led to the support from the Football Foundation to help meet the current demand within our area and offer a facility that our community can enjoy and greatly benefit from.”
“We’ve been working with sports and activity clubs from across the borough to put together the summer programme, which means we can offer a wide range of events throughout August.
“We hope that children and young people from across Tamworth will find the new programme exciting and sign up to try something they may not have tried before”.
