24 new council homes ready to welcome tenants

Tamworth Borough Council has just taken ownership of 22 new one-bedroomed flats and two three-bedroomed new houses for council housing. 

The new homes are available as council housing and are part of the refurbished former Wilnecote day centre, Hockley Road. The £4,955,000 development, led by Capstone sees 22 one-bedroomed flats and two three-bedroomed houses. The cost includes the cost of land, refurbishment and new buildings. 

All properties meet the latest energy efficiency standards, and includes specific bike storage for residents.

The homes are being made ready for Tamworth Borough Council to allocate to those on the local housing lists. 

With the five new homes also built at Caledonian, Glascote Heath, there are an additional 29 properties, bringing the total number of council housing properties to over 4,300. 

Finishing work on the pavements and road will be carried out by Staffordshire County Council in due course at both the Hockley Road and Caledonian sites.

“The partnership with Capstone has been a real success, with local people being consulted throughout. 

“Housing stock provision of good quality and affordable housing in Tamworth, is a key priority for Tamworth Borough Council’s corporate plan.”
