Councillor Sarah Daniels, portfolio holder for co-operative council, community partnerships and antisocial behaviour, said: “What an amazing achievement! We congratulate Tamworth Street Angels, for their Kings Award for voluntary services, the highest award for voluntary groups and equivalent to an MBE!

“This award is a wonderful testament to the hard work and commitment from local people that give up their time to help keep Tamworth safe at night.

“On Saturday evenings and busy weekends, Street Angels aid the night-time economy by looking after anyone who needs it. This can include giving of first aid, handing out a foil blanket, water, flip flops and more! They also work with police and ambulance crews, de-escalating situations, working to make sure everyone gets home safely.

“The Street Angels support Tamworth Borough Council’s Community Safety Partnership and town centre licencing team, plus the Safer Nights campaign, to help keep our evening town centre economy safe. We support them financially through the Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Locality Deal Fund.”
