- New strategy that recognises accessible services
- Community cohesion a main focus
- Values equal and inclusive opportunities
Tamworth Borough Council has announced a new equality, diversity and inclusion strategy for 2025-2028, which seeks to make sure council services recognise the individual and their needs, with a main focus on community cohesion and the importance of social inclusion.
The EDI Strategy outlines a clear plan for fostering an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued and respected. It is designed to make sure services are compliant with the Public Sector Equality Duty, and to address emerging issues such as intersectionality, equity, misogyny, and misandry.
Key Highlights of the Strategy:
- Understanding and working with communities: The strategy is based on sound evidence and research around the needs of communities, making sure policies, procedures, and actions are inclusive and effective.
- Leadership, partnership, and organisational commitment: Strategic leadership and collaboration with partners are central to improving equality outcomes.
- Responsive services and customer care: The council is committed to meeting the needs of vulnerable people and delivering good equality outcomes.
- Diverse and engaged workforce: HR policies and procedures reflect good equality practices, ensuring that all employees and applicants are treated fairly and with respect.
The launch of this strategy marks a significant milestone in Tamworth Borough Council's journey towards creating a more inclusive and equitable community for all. The council will continue to publish information annually and review equality objectives every four years to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
Councillor Carol Dean, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “This is a very important strategy for the council and reflects our dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for all.
“The strategy outlines how we will promote equality and diversity in the delivery of the services provided directly by the council and in conjunction with our partners.
“We aim to create and maintain a community that embraces change, welcomes
diversity, and seeks ways to bring communities together.
“We look forward to working with our communities to achieve these goals.”
