Tamworth Borough Council is inviting voluntary sector groups and charities to apply for a share of £118,000 Community Recovery Fund cash, as part of the latest funding round.
Applications are being invited via the We Are Tamworth crowdfunding initiative, which offers groups the chance to bring ideas to life through a combination of donations from the community and grants of up to £10,000 from the council.
The crowdfunding format helps ensure council grants are directed to projects which also have the backing of local people.
Organisations looking for support have until September 30 to get their applications in for this particular funding round.
Cllr Andrew Wells, portfolio holder for cooperative council, community partnerships and ASB, said: “Tamworth has a thriving voluntary sector and we have a significant amount of funding available to support the amazing work being done in our communities.
“Crowdfunding enables us to direct those resources to projects that are built and backed by local people, for those who will benefit most.
“Some fantastic causes have already been supported and I’d encourage any charities or community groups to have a look and see if they might be eligible before the September 30 deadline of this particular round.”

- Eligible, approved projects and fundraising targets uploaded to Spacehive
- Start receiving donations from local people and partners
- Once support is received from 20 backers, projects becomes eligible for council pledges
- Council funds are only transferred if campaign targets are reached
- Groups can choose to receive community pledges even if targets are not met, or go ‘all or nothing’
Who is eligible
The Community Recovery Fund is open to ideas that build and promote good relationships in local neighbourhoods and strengthen bonds between people of all backgrounds and ages.
Successful projects to date
More than £85,000 has already been raised through We Are Tamworth for initiatives that positively impact the lives of local people.
This was made up of £31,968 in grants from the council and £54,031 worth of donations and support from hundreds of local backers.
Projects which hit their fundraising targets include free football sessions for young people, radio broadcasting training, relationship education workshops for young women, arts and wellbeing projects supporting neurodiverse residents, community choir sessions, the new Art of Tamworth Festival, a community farm sensory area and more support for hygiene poverty.
Building better communities
The crowdfunding programme is part of the We Are Tamworth: Building Better Communities strategy, made possible thanks to a £600,000 award from the Government’s Community Recovery Fund.
To help local people turn their ideas into action, £165,000 of this was allocated to the Spacehive programme - £90,000 for revenue projects, and £75,000 for capital works.
There’s also a separate pot of funds from the Community Infrastructure Levy which can be accessed via Spacehive.
