Neighbourhood Board Chair voluntary job specification

The Pride in Place programme, which is delivering £20 million of government funding in Glascote Heath and Stonydelph, is seeking a chair for its Neighbourhood Board.

Please note that this position is unpaid, however reasonable expenses will be covered.​

Job description​

Working closely with the Member of Parliament and local elected representatives and other stakeholders, to:

  • Drive forward Pride In Place projects that transform people and place within the Glascote Heath and Stonydelph community and change for the better local peoples’ perspective of where they live.
  • Assist the Member of Parliament in the recruitment, training, support and mentoring of members of the Neighbourhood Board.
  • Act as an ambassador for and promote and champion the work of the Board, and act, alongside the MP, as the public face.
  • Liaise as required with press and media, and representatives of local business, third sector, religious, community and voluntary groups as well as schools and health and care providers.
  • Act as an independent and impartial Chair of the [monthly] meetings of the Board, ensuring all stakeholders’ views are reflected.
  • Facilitate the preparation and collation of project proposals for submission to the Board.
  • Oversee the construction, implementation and ongoing review and monitoring of the Neighbourhood Plan
  • Ensure proper governance and management of the Board, working with officers of Tamworth Borough Council with regard to financial accountability.

Person specification

Essential

  • Evidence of local credibility together with a strong connection with and a track record of supporting the Glascote community.
  • Demonstrable commitment to supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience of representing an organisation as its public face.

Proven ability to:

  • Act as a proactive and trustworthy convenor, bringing together community groups and prioritizing community engagement.
  • Set and manage Board agendas to ensure most effective use of time and resource
  • Chair meetings effectively, ensuring all voices are heard and discussions are collaborative.
  • Assimilate and explain detailed financial and statistical information.
  • Manage differing perceptions and perspectives, navigating conflict calmly and with impartiality.
  • Problem solve, thinking laterally and creatively.

Desirable

  • Experience of bid writing, managing funding and writing evaluation reports to the funding body
  • Experience / understanding of local and/or national government including finance.
  • Experience in a legal, financial or regulatory environment.
  • Experience at Board level in the public, private or third sector.
