- Details of the proposed polling arrangements can be viewed on our website at Polling District, Polling Place & Polling Station Review Consultation | Tamworth Borough Council
- Statutory consultation period from Monday 9 September to Monday 14 October 2024
Tamworth Borough Council is carrying out a review of the polling districts and polling places in the borough. This is required by law under section 18C of the Representation of the People Act 1983.
All local authorities must comply with a number of legal requirements around the locations and accessibility of polling districts and polling places. Consulting local people is an essential part of the review process.
The last review in Tamworth was carried out in 2019.
The review considers any formal feedback from local residents and stakeholders in the borough, including any issues about access to buildings or facilities for those with disabilities. Anyone can make their views known and all submissions will be published. The review also considers the impact of residential developments planned within the next four years.
Anyone submitting comments are asked to also share alternative proposals for polling station locations.
The polling districts, polling places and polling stations finally approved will be used for the May 2025 local elections.
Borough ward boundaries, county council boundaries and parliamentary constituency boundaries are not in scope of this review.
To help people see and understand the recommendations, maps of the existing arrangements as well as maps of the proposed arrangements are available on Polling District, Polling Place & Polling Station Review Consultation | Tamworth Borough Council
In the review, the council must:
- Seek to make sure that everyone in the constituency have reasonable facilities for voting as is practical in the circumstances.
- Seek to make sure that, subject to reasonable adjustments, polling places are accessible for those with disabilities.
The consultation period will run from Monday 9 September to Monday 14 October 2024.
Stephen Gabriel, returning officer of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “This review is not only required by law, but it is very important for us. It helps us to improve the polling stations and make sure everyone can access them to vote in elections.
“Please take part in the consultation and share your views on current polling stations and any recommendations you have on new locations.”
