- Radio Tamworth raises over £4,800 through community crowdfunding campaign
- Tamworth Borough Council first fully funded project from the ‘We Are Tamworth’ programme
- More community projects still live and seeking support on the Spacehive platform
Tamworth Borough Council are pleased to announce that Radio Tamworth has successfully raised over £4,800 through Tamworth’s first community-led crowdfunding campaign.
This project is the first to be fully funded as part of the ‘We Are Tamworth’ programme – a community initiative launched earlier this year by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Spacehive.
Local people gave generously, and the campaign received 34 pledges, including match funding from Tamworth Borough Council and the government’s community recovery fund. All crowdfunding projects will receive a council pledge when they reach their community crowdfunding target.
This means Radio Tamworth can now launch its free eight-week training programme, open to residents of all ages.
Participants will learn key broadcasting skills, create their own radio show, and even get the chance to go live on air, helping new voices find their platform while strengthening community connections across the town.
This success reflects the core aim of the ‘We Are Tamworth’ programme to support local ideas that bring people together, build skills and confidence, and promote inclusion and opportunity for all.
Councillor Sarah Daniels, portfolio holder for cooperative council, community partnerships and ASB, said:
“Radio Tamworth reaching their crowdfunding goal is a brilliant example of local creativity and community support in action. This is exactly what ‘We Are Tamworth’ was designed to do. It empowers local people to lead the change they want to see in their neighbourhoods. We are proud to be supporting this project and excited to see the positive impact it will have.”
John Chesworth, Station Manager at Radio Tamworth, added:
"We are very grateful to receive this funding for Radio Tamworth. The support from our community has been overwhelming, and we would also like to thank Tamworth Borough Council for their generosity.
"Spacehive has given us the platform to raise much-needed funds, and the crowdfunding has showed us that there's a massive generosity of spirit amongst Tamworth people for what we are doing at Radio Tamworth."
There are four other local projects currently live on the Spacehive platform seeking local crowdfunding support. Other campaigns include projects supporting neurodiverse mental health through drama, tackling youth gambling harm, empowering girls with relationship education, and building inclusion through community football.

The ‘We Are Tamworth’ programme is delivered by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Spacehive and funded from part of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government community recovery fund, a grant of £600,000 awarded following the civil unrest in Tamworth on 4 August, to enhance community cohesion and rebuild social trust in Tamworth.
