• Sunday 9 March is the day of reflection across the UK for the COVID-19 pandemic
• 2025 marks five years since the pandemic began
• It is an opportunity to come together to remember the lives lost since the pandemic began

2025 marks five years since the pandemic began, and, as a nation, we continue to honour and remember those affected. Across the country, people and communities are invited to come together on the COVID-19 day of reflection to mark the day in ways that feel meaningful to them.

To pay tribute to those who lost their lives and for everyone affected during the pandemic, Tamworth Borough Council will light Tamworth Castle yellow on Sunday 9 March.

The UK commission on covid commemoration was set up to find appropriate ways to remember those who lost their lives since the pandemic began, and to explore how to mark this period of history.

By continuing to hold a national day of reflection, in line with previous years, the hope is to offer communities across the country the opportunity to join together in commemoration of those who lost their lives.

On Sunday 9 March, people are invited to:
• Remember and commemorate those who lost their lives since the pandemic began.
• Reflect on the sacrifices made by many, and the impact of the pandemic on us all.
• Pay tribute to the work of health and social care staff, frontline workers and researchers.
• Appreciate those who volunteered and showed acts of kindness during this difficult time.

Councillor Sarah Daniels, portfolio holder for cooperative council, community partnerships and antisocial behaviour said: “It’s been five years since the COVID-19 pandemic, but the impacts of this time remain very vivid. It is important that we take a moment to honour the lives lost and the lives that have been changed forever.

“Lighting the castle is a symbol of remembrance for those who have lost their lives. While the pandemic has passed, the grief many of us feel for those we lost at that time is still very real.
