Tamworth Castle hosting festive events for all the family

There’s lots of Christmas events and activities coming to Tamworth Castle this winter and Tamworth Borough Council is excited to welcome visitors for lots of festive fun.

A great way to kick off the festive season on Thursday 28 November is to watch a celebration of yuletide past guaranteed to warm the cockles of the most Scrooge-like heart. Spanning several centuries, Green Matthews’ Midwinter Revels is a celebration show featuring Christmas carols, winter folk songs, toe-tapping tunes and a plethora of weird and wonderful instruments, the show is brought to life with Green Matthews’ trademark wit and humour.

On Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December at 1pm, give your front door a Christmas makeover with a beautiful bespoke sustainable textile wreath.

Textile expert, Sarah Baxter will guide you through the creative process to make a unique decorative masterpiece, that can be used year after year or given as a special gift.

Tickets are £20 each, pre-booking is essential as there are limited spaces so be quick and book your tickets now. No experience is necessary, all materials are provided, and the workshop will last two hours.

On the same days at 3.30pm, there is a Christmas themed ‘holly and the ivy’ water colour and folklore workshop. Come along and learn how to paint a beautiful Christmas garland, full of all the traditional plants associated with Christmas. As you learn how to paint the different leaves and berries in your wreath you will hear about the Christmas traditions and folklore associated with them from around the world and explore the symbolism in many of our yuletide traditions.

Why not spend a whole day at Tamworth Castle and really get into the spirit of Christmas. 

If you book both the wreath making and the holly and the ivy workshop you will receive a 10% discount. 

There is also the beautiful ‘castle by candlelight’. Visit the Christmas decorated castle on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December. Have a wander after dark through the enchanted candlelit castle, decorated for Christmas. Finish your visit with festive entertainment from the Christmas carollers in the beautifully lit medieval great hall.

And don’t forget Santa! For a lovely experience with all the family and to celebrate a magical Christmas at Tamworth Castle, come to ‘Santa’s Christmas Castle’ experience. Santa will be in residence, resting ahead of his busy night on Christmas Eve. He will be welcoming visitors and listening to their news of the wonderful things that have happened during their year.

You will tour through the beautifully decorated festive castle, looking for clues to lead you to Santa. Children will write a letter of wishes and post it through a magic letter box and create their own bespoke Christmas keep sake. Each child will be presented with a gift from Santa’s helper as they bid Santa a fond farewell.

Visit Santa on either Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Saturday 14 or Sunday 15 December. Multiple times are available, but tickets are selling fast so be quick to make sure you see Santa.

Pre-booking is essential, and tickets are £12.50 for adults, £15.00 for children aged 3 and over and £6.00 for children aged 2 and below.

The experience will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Customers are advised to arrive 10 minutes prior to their ticket time and allow a minimum of 2 hours parking.
