Thousands of people again packed into Tamworth Castle Grounds for Tamworth Borough Council’s successful 14th annual free fireworks extravaganza complemented with music from Elton John.

The popular Tamworth FREE fireworks spectacular returned with a breath-taking display that lit up the skies above the Castle Grounds on Saturday 4 November.

Organised by Tamworth Borough Council, the event has become a firm favourite in the town’s annual calendar of events with an estimated 14,000 people visited the town for Saturday’s spectacular.

This year’s dazzling display was perfectly timed to music from Elton John, with a stunning array of breath-taking pyrotechnics. The event also hosted fairground rides and refreshment stalls.

Councillor Andrew Cooper, Cabinet portfolio holder for entertainment and leisure said: “Huge thanks to everyone who joined us at our annual free fireworks, the event was a success and enjoyed by thousands despite the weather! The display was spectacular, and it was great to see so many smiles on people’s faces.

“All year round we have a full programme of high-quality outdoor entertainment for families to enjoy free of charge and it’s great to see so many people taking advantage of the opportunity.

“Providing events such as this is one of our priorities as a council; enabling local people to access entertainment and leisure and supporting the local economy and local businesses by bringing people into the town.

“This year too, Anker Drive, River Drive and Ventura Park Road were closed for safety reasons during the show and afterwards. This was successful, it reduced the amount of inappropriate parking and allowed crowds to safely leave the event.

“Our next event is the Tamworth Christmas Lights Switch On which takes place in the castle grounds from 2pm on Sunday, November 26, with another packed line up of free entertainment for all the family. This also marks the start of Christmas in Tamworth 2023, a jam-packed month of festive activities for the whole family.”

The Mayor of Tamworth John Harper added “I was truly amazed at how many people braved Saturday night’s awful weather to attend the town’s annual fireworks display in the Castle Grounds.

“It was a brilliantly organised event, and everyone involved in staging it – the council’s events team, fireworks technicians, stewards, emergency services, car park attendants, police, stallholders and many others - rose to the challenge magnificently and enabled the event to take place in the worst conditions I can remember.

“The show was fabulous and event compere Gareth Evans and his technical team were brilliant. But most impressive of all were the mums, dads, children, grandparents and everyone else who shrugged off the rain and made it a night to remember.

“Well done everyone – I was so proud of you all. Proof indeed that Tamworth folk are made of special stuff.”
