There is now just two weeks left for residents, businesses and community organisations to have their say on whether Tamworth should have a borough-wide parish council.
Tamworth Borough Council is reminding people to take part in the formal Community Governance Review (CGR) before it closes on Sunday 9 August 2026.
The review is considering whether creating a parish council for the whole of Tamworth would help strengthen local representation and community involvement, especially in the light of local government reorganisation where government has announced that Tamworth Borough Council will be replaced by one unitary authority covering South and Mid Staffordshire. This new council is expected to be established in April 2028.

A parish council is a local, community-led tier of government that sits below the principal council. Parish councils typically focus on local matters such as parks, allotments, community facilities and local events. They are funded through a parish precept, which is an additional charge on council tax.
Residents, businesses, community organisations and other stakeholders are encouraged to complete the online survey and can also speak to council representatives at the final consultation event. So far, four consultation events have been held across the borough, with the final event taking place at:
- Athelstan 1100 festival, Tamworth Market – Saturday 26 July
This consultation is a key stage of the review and will play an important role in shaping the final outcome. Feedback received during the consultation will inform recommendations on whether a parish council should be established for Tamworth. If local people do show support, there will be a further consultation in September/October 2026 with firmer proposals about the parish council.
The review is being overseen by a cross-party Community Governance Review working group, which has been established to consider the evidence gathered throughout the process and make recommendations on the future governance arrangements for Tamworth.

"This is an important opportunity for people to help shape how local communities could be represented in the future. Whether you support the idea of a parish council or not, we want to hear from as many people as possible before the consultation closes.
"The feedback we receive will decide what happens next, whether recommendations to create a parish council go forward or not, so I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete the survey."
