- The mayor will be supported by the Deputy Mayor Councillor Ken Norchi
Councillor Chris Bain has been announced as the new mayor for Tamworth with the ambition of doing all he can to ‘help preserve the spirit of Tamworth.’
The ceremonial robes and chains were handed over by outgoing Mayor, Gareth Coates, after what he described as ‘a fantastic year and a great honour.’
Mayor Chris Bain will be supported by the new elected Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ken Norchi.
On appointment, the Mayor of Tamworth, Chris Bain thanked everyone for their kind and supportive words.
He went on to say: “This position gives great pride to me and my family. I want to thank Gareth for his year as mayor. Gareth is the epitome of integrity and commitment, who has raised a high sum of money for his charities and has touched so many lives. To me Gareth, you are the best of us.
“I want to continue to support our town to the best of my ability. I’m taking office at a time of great challenge, and I want us all to do all we can to preserve the spirit that is Tamworth.”
Councillor Gareth Coates raised more than £4,200 for his two chosen charities, Tamworth Hygiene Bank and Changes.
The Mayor’s chosen charities for the year are Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Support Centre, who support people and their families while coping with cancer and other chronic illnesses.
And the Heart of Tamworth; a local charity supporting people across the Tamworth area delivering a wide range of services and support from their community facilities at the Sacred Heart Community Centre in Glascote and St John’s Church in the town centre. Support is available to everyone in the local community, regardless of background or faith.
The Mayor also pledged to offer support for the Royal British Legion.
The outgoing Mayor presented a certificate to the outgoing cadet, Leading Cadet Daniel Hayes from Tamworth Sea Cadets, and inaugurated a new cadet, Corporal Archie Allsopp from Tamworth Air Cadets.
