- Gareth Coates announced as Mayor of Tamworth
- New mayor replaces John Harper
- The mayor will be supported by the Deputy Mayor Chris Bain
Gareth Coates has been announced as the new mayor for Tamworth with the ambition of promoting the amazing people and pride in the town.
The ceremonial robes and chains were handed over by outgoing Mayor, John Harper, after what he described as ‘a fantastic year and a great honour.’
Mayor Gareth Coates will be supported by his wife Sally, as Mayoress.
On appointment, the Mayor of Tamworth, Gareth Coates thanked everyone for their kind and supportive words.
He went on to say: “It is a great honour and privilege to be in the position of Mayor.
“As Tamworth’s 143rd Mayor, I was asked what I would like to do and accomplish in the next 12 months. Answer: for the Assembly Rooms to show Die Hard at Christmas please!
“Joking aside, I want to promote all the positive things that Tamworth has to offer, from the events, businesses and local charities that do great work in our communities. Tamworth has so much to offer not just to the residents but the rest of the country. Tamworth Football Club is now in the National League, making Tamworth an away-day destination to a larger group of football fans. And we have the Tamworth Town ale trail that takes you around many great pubs we have in the town.
“I will be promoting other businesses around Tamworth too, showcasing the many events that happen in Tamworth along with the many and varied businesses that we have here.
“I very much look forward to supporting Tamworth and its people as Mayor.
The Mayor’s chosen charities for the year are Tamworth Hygiene Bank and Changes.
