Corporate Plan 2025-2030

Foreword

We are proud to present this refreshed 2026/27 update to the Corporate Plan 2025-2030, setting out the strategic goals and priorities that will continue to drive our shared ambition towards ‘Building a Better Tamworth’. This update reflects the progress we have made so far, and the renewed focus required to meet the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Over the past year, we have made significant progress towards the goals set out in our Corporate Plan, delivering meaningful improvements for residents while strengthening the foundations of our organisation.

Throughout this period, we have remained resilient and adaptable in a rapidly evolving local government landscape.

Progress and Key Achievements

Across every priority area, teams have delivered meaningful outcomes for our communities. Our performance management framework has enabled robust monitoring of our delivery plan and corporate key performance indicators, helping us to remain transparent, accountable, and focused on impact.

We have seen real progress on the ground, including:

  • Regenerating St Editha’s Square, creating a more vibrant, welcoming civic space in the town centre.
  • Investing in cleaner, greener services, including upgraded waste and recycling systems.
  • Community crowdfunding, enabling resident-led projects, raising over £80,000 for local initiatives.
  • Joining the Cooperative Councils Innovation Network, strengthening our commitment to cooperative values and working.

These achievements demonstrate our commitment to delivering visible improvements while maintaining financial responsibility. This progress also positions us strongly as we navigate through significant regional developments, including the continued work on Local Government Reorganisation.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

This update comes at a pivotal moment, as Tamworth continues to play a leading role in shaping the future of local government across Staffordshire.

In 2025, we worked closely with five neighbouring authorities to develop and submit a full business case for Local Government Reorganisation, one of the most significant and collaborative programmes undertaken in recent years.

This evidence-led proposal, grounded in sustainability, strong governance, and value for money, was strengthened by exceptional community engagement, including over 16,700 survey responses, public drop-ins, focus groups, and wide digital reach.

Together with Lichfield and South Staffordshire, we submitted the Three-Unitary Model for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, designed to create financially sustainable councils that reflect real community identity and meet local needs. This work showcases Tamworth’s commitment to regional leadership and ensures the needs and voices of our residents remain essential as government considers future local government structures.

Looking Ahead

As we move into 2026/27, our focus remains firmly on delivering outcomes that continue to:

  • Support local businesses and drive economic prosperity.
  • Enhance our neighbourhoods and local environment.
  • Strengthen community wellbeing and safety.
  • Modernise how the council operates, making services more accessible and efficient.

Together, we will continue to build a confident, connected, and forward-looking Tamworth.
