Our climate action scorecards assess climate action across seven sections. 

3 - Collaboration and engagement

Do the council's climate pages include information about behaviour changes that residents can make, and are they easy to find?

  • Our Tamworth Climate Matters page provides information for residents about climate change, encouraging behaviour change and supporting a circular economy.

Has the council published a Climate Action Plan with SMART targets?

Has the council published an up to date and easy-to-read annual report on their Climate Action Plan?

Has the council lobbied the government for climate action?

  • We have not, but it is something we will consider going forwards.

Is the council working with external partners or other councils to seek to influence national governments on climate action, or to learn about and share best practice on council climate action?

  • We are part of the Staffordshire Sustainability Board which comprises of representation from all ten Partner Authorities and elected Members from each council in Staffordshire. The purpose of the board is to gather the Elected Members (sustainability / waste management portfolio) to allow discussion on the relevant environmental sustainability issues, debate matters affecting multiple authorities and decide outcomes and objectives for collective projects.
  • In October 2025, we hosted a free tree giveaway as part of the Staffordshire Sustainability Board communications plan. It was a great success and we gave away 500 trees to encourage residents to protect and enhance nature in Tamworth.

Does the council have an ongoing way for residents to influence the implementation of the council's Climate Action Plan?

  • Not currently, but it is something we can explore going forwards to engage the local community with the implementation of our plan. 

Does the council's ongoing engagement with residents include those most affected by climate change and climate action policy?

  • Our Equality, Social and Health Impact Assessment as part of our decision-making process identifies how our climate action plan and adaptation plan will engage those most vulnerable and consider the impact on them.
  • We shared a ‘dealing with extreme heat’ guide in the residents’ handbook for those who may be most vulnerable to climate change.

Does the council provide funding for community climate action, for example through an environment fund or climate action fund?

  • Our crowdfunding programme through Spacehive enables community organisations to create and deliver meaningful and impactful projects in Tamworth, including climate related initiatives to improve health and wellbeing and build resilience to climate change.

Is the council working in partnership with cultural institutions and organisations to encourage decarbonisation within culture and arts locally?

  • We engage with a variety of community organisations and provide information and support with climate action where possible. Read more hereWe will look to support local cultural and art institutions with decarbonisation in future. 

Is the council working in partnership with schools or other education settings to deliver climate action that young people can engage with?

In support of the ‘Sustainable Schools’ programme, we hosted a truck built specifically to raise greater awareness about sustainability and offer students a suitable setting to learn more about the environment. The truck had a colourful, vibrant vinyl wrap as well as impressive new features such as a plug-and-play interactive TV, colour-changing lighting, plush seating, a fridge, and solar power to create a comfortable and engaging educational space.

Is the council working in partnership with local businesses to encourage decarbonisation?

Through our green support we have signposted local businesses in Tamworth to workshops and resources for decarbonisation such as ‘Green Solutions’ and carbon literacy training. We send a monthly ‘Open for Business’ newsletter which includes a sustainability section to share updates and tools for decarbonisation. 

Has the council passed a motion to ban high carbon advertising and sponsorship?

  • have not currently done so but is something we can consider in future.

Does the council have an ongoing way for employee representative bodies (including recognised trade unions) to influence the development and delivery of the council’s Climate Action Plan?

  • We don’t currently have this in place but is something we can consider going forwards as we progress with our climate action plan.
